Egg sharing

This is a programme which offers significantly reduced-cost IVF treatment to suitable women who wish to share their eggs. The egg sharer will require extensive counselling on the legal and ethical implications of egg donation.

Who is eligible to share their eggs? An egg sharer should:

IVF woman smiles outside
  • Be aged 21-35

  • Have a normal FSH level (below 10 IU/l)

  • Have normal blood screens for HIV, Hepatitis B&C, Syphilis, Haemoglobin, Cystic Fibrosis and chromosome studies

  • Have no family history of inheritable disorders
  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of <30.

We must receive a letter from the egg sharer’s GP detailing all relevant past and present medical history and confirming there is no reason why she should not be considered for egg sharing.

All information given to the recipients about the egg sharer will be non-identifying. However, information about the egg sharer will be held in central register with the HFEA. This means that at the age of 18, or 16 if intending to marry, the person born as a result of egg donation will have access to identifying information about the donor should they wish.

More detailed information on egg sharing is available on request.
